Pumice House

  • RESIDENTIAL

2000.03

Design scheme for a competition “New Stone Architecture.”
Stones are commonly ‘piled up’ because of their weight, but the weight ratio of pumice stone is reversed once inside water. Water volume inside the acrylic tubes is regulated to move the pumice stone that is ‘piled down’ from the water level, adjusting ways of taking in light according to the needs inside.
The residual heat absorbed in the water is reserved in the heat pile underground to heat the building during the winter or at night.
